East Brisbane is located three kilometres east from Brisbane’s CBD. It was first developed in the 1880’s and many of the older homes are of the Queenslander style. There are now significant numbers of apartments being built to replace the older homes. The western side of East Brisbane are dominated by small industrial warehouses. Until the beginning of April 1969 trams ran through East Brisbane on their way to Bulimba. The area is now serviced by buses. Nearby, Mowbray Park located on the Brisbane River had a river fed swimming pool until the 1930’s. Aerial photos of East Brisbane are dominated by the Anglican Church Grammar School. They also show the nearby suburb of Woolloongabba and the Brisbane Cricket Ground, better known as the “Gabba”. You can also see the Botanic Gardens in the city, which are accessible from Southbank via the Goodwill Bridge. East Brisbane is close to the Captain Cook Bridge, with access via Lytton Road. Kangaroo Point and Southbank are also nearby and can be accessed via Vulture Street.
