The large satellite suburb of Eight Mile Plains in Brisbane was so named because it was eight miles (13 kilometres) from one mile swamp, or Woolloongabba, as it is known today. Eight Mile Plains is an interesting mix of suburban living, shopping, farming, remnant bushland, accommodation and technology. It is the site of the Brisbane Technology Park, a 33.5 hectare site which includes the Clunes Ross Centre for Science and Technology. Eight Mile Plains is also home to offices of the Australia Tax Office and the RACQ.
