Elanora is a suburb of the Gold Coast and is located approximately 13 kilometres from Coolangatta. Elanora is an aboriginal word meaning “home by the sea.” It is located to the northwest of the Pacific Highway, which curves around the northeast and east of this suburb. Elanora is formed around a beautiful manmade lake. Aerial photos of Elanora clearly show beautiful Pine Lake as one of its dominant features. There is a retirement village named after the lake situated on its banks, offering peaceful views for residents. Shopping in Elanora is catered for by a small shopping centre located on Nineteenth Avenue, and a much larger centre located on Guinness Creek Road, called ”The Pines”. There is a State Government proposed rail extension to this area by 2015. Schools in this area include Elanora State Primary School and Elanora High School. Environmentally sensitive conservation areas such as Tallebudgera Creek, Conservation Park and Environmental Park are located close to Elanora.
