The name Banyo is believed to be an aboriginal word meaning small hill or ridge. During the Second World War Banyo was the main general depot for troops in Brisbane, due to its closeness to all major transport routes. Banyo also is the home of the Catholic University – which originally started its life as a seminary for Catholic priests. The main imposing building is set on 40 hectares of prime Banyo real estate.
